How do I create a new widget?

You can create custom widgets to use within your Dashboards. They are based on your saved queries.

You can now create Custom Widgets for your Dashboards. You will need to provide a base query, the segments, values, and visualization settings for each widget you want to create.

Definitions

Query

  1. This is one of your saved queries that you'd like to use to as the base dataset for your widget.

Segment

  1. Think of Segments as the X axis of your line chart or the slices of a pie chart. If you think you'll want to create these segments you can choose up to two segments to segment your data.
  2. Segments can be items like Target Type where each type is a segment. Or they can be Dates which can be aggregated by Day, Week, Month, Quarter, or Year.

Value

  1. Think of the Value as how thick your slice of the pie will be, or how high the bar will be.
  2. Values are calculated using a function such as Count Distinct, Standard Deviation, Mean, Max, Min, Average.

Workflow

  1. You will be presented with a Create Widget Workflow where you will need to configure the Widget Settings, the Data Settings, and the Visualization Settings.
  2. For Widget Settings you can choose between a Visualization based widget; think Bar Chart, Pie Chart, etc. Or you can choose a Text Based widget.
    1. Text Based Widgets are helpful if you'd like to provide an explanation or overview to users for the dashboard or to save links or other text based data.
  3. If you choose Visualization you'll need to provide the data you'd like to use in your Widget. This is done by selecting from one of your saved queries.
    1. If you need to create a new query there's a link visible in this screen that takes you to the Prioritize page for you to create your query. When you come back to this tab you can click on the Refresh icon to reload your saved queries and select your new query.
    2. This query provides the base dataset. If you'd like your widget to only display data for a given time period use the date filters in your query. Or if you'd like to exclude specific data you can add those filters to your query.
  4. Next you'll have to determine if you'd like to segment this data. This is optional.
    1. This list will continue to grow as we introduce new ways of segmenting your data.
    2. If you select two Segments you'll only be able to choose one Value.
  5. Next, you'll need to determine which values you'd like to display and how they should be calculated. This is required.
    1. You can select from different functions such as Count of X or Average of Y or Standard Deviation of Z.
  6. As your choosing these values you'll be presented with the default Preview of this data, if you'd like to change the visualization type you do so in the next step.
    1. Here you can choose between Bar, Pie, Table, Line, and Simple Metric.
    2. Depending on your Data Settings the available Visualization types will be presented.
    3. Feel free to switch between types so you can preview what it would look like.
  7. Finally, you can review your settings and if needed go back to a particular step or start over. Once you're ready you can save your Widget.

Editing a Widget

  1. You can edit your custom widget by clicking on the Customize Dashboard button for the specific dashboard you wish to edit.
  2. Find your specific widget (if it's already set within a Dashboard) and click on the little "cog" wheel next to the "x" to remove the widget from the dashboard.
  3. Or you can find an empty spot on the dashboard and click Add Widget, this will open your Widget Library. Here you can find your Widget and click Edit Widget.

Deleting a Widget Forever

  1. You can edit your custom widget by clicking on the Customize Dashboard button for the specific dashboard you wish to edit.
  2.  Click Add Widget on an empty spot in the Dashboard, this will open your Widget Library.
  3. Search for your widget.
  4. You can click on Delete Widget.
    1. This will delete your widget from the system completely. You will have to recreate the widget from scratch if you deleted something by accident.

Duplicating a Widget

  1. You can edit your custom widget by clicking on the Customize Dashboard button for the specific dashboard you wish to edit.
  2.  Click Add Widget on an empty spot in the Dashboard, this will open your Widget Library.
  3. Search for your widget.
  4. Click on Duplicate Widget.
  5. You will be presented with the Create Widget Workflow, however, all of the settings will be set using the widget you selected to duplicate.
  6. Change the Title as that must be unique and change any other setting you wish.
    1. The use case here is to duplicate with the intention of only changing the data settings, specifically, the query.
  7. Finish the workflow and it will create a new widget based on the item you duplicated.
